With over 377 million urban people living in 7,935 towns and cities, there is approx 62 million tonnes of municipal solid waste generated per annum, out of which only 43 million tonnes (MT) of the waste is collected, 11.9 MT is treated and almost 31 MT is dumped in landfill sites, simply without proper processing or treatment. By 2025, India’s waste management sector is expected to be worth US$13.62 billion with an annual growth rate of 7.17 percent. With the increasing
population in India, waste generation has soared terribly over the past few decades, and with growing waste, the need for waste management has become more important than ever before.
