Anamika Sahu, Managing EditorThe Indian animal husbandry market will grow at a CAGR of 11.8 percent during 2019-2024, which in 2018 stood at Rs.3,892 billion. No wonder, the industry that provides employment to 8.8 percent of the population in the country is all expected to touch new heights in terms of livestock too which contributes 4.11 percent GDP and 25.6 percent of total agriculture GDP. However, despite being the world’s highest livestock owner, India is struggling to improve productivity of farm animals, deal with frequent outbreaks of diseases, limited artificial insemination services and much more.
Hence the need of the hour is to not just formulate solutions but make them available at the customer’s convenience and even enlighten them on the usage and benefits of these products/solutions. As most of the livestock is owned by rural and semi-urban population, it is pertinent that there lies a huge gap of knowhow on the current products and services that will enable them reap better benefits from their livestock. While working on our current edition of siliconindia Magazine’s ‘10 Most Promising Animal Husbandry & Poultry Companies – 2020’, we heard similar stories from companies.

Most of these companies are now planning on investing on updating their target audience about their products & services and the benefits they bring to their clients. Though a much needed push from the government is awaited, it is also important to put a check on the usage of chemicals in animal feeds, which ultimately is consumed by us in the form of milk, egg, meat and others. Hence some of the featured companies even are working on creating better products that will have less impact on the animals and finally on us, thus bringing a positive change in the whole ecosystem.
