CII and WRI India Establish Partnership to Advance Clean Energy in Industry

- CI-NERGY Alliance established to promote clean energy adoption in India's commercial and industrial sectors.
- Initial focus on textiles, pharmaceuticals, and data centers.
- Aims to support India's targets of 50% non-fossil fuel electricity capacity by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2070.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and WRI India have launched the CI-NERGY Alliance to accelerate clean energy adoption in India's commercial and industrial (C&I) sectors. The initiative was unveiled at Connect Karo 2025 in New Delhi and aims to support India's targets of achieving 50% installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2070.
The CI-NERGY Alliance is envisioned as a self-sustaining, national level, industry run platform to amplify the sector’s voice and create an enabling ecosystem for clean and green power adoption. It seeks to foster collaboration among various stakeholders, including energy procurers, clean energy suppliers, technology providers, financial institutions, and policymakers. The alliance aims to create a competitive marketplace through demand aggregation, standardized power purchase agreements (PPAs), and procurement options. Additionally, it will promote market transparency with data tools to track energy use and decarbonization progress, expand access to green finance, and demonstrate scalable business models.

While the alliance is open to all industries, its initial focus will be on sectors where clean energy adoption can have a significant impact, such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, and data centers. By addressing systemic challenges and implementing innovative models, the CI-NERGY Alliance aims to facilitate the transition from conventional fuel sources to clean energy, contributing to a resilient, low carbon economy.
The launch of the CI-NERGY Alliance marks a significant step in India's efforts to accelerate clean energy adoption in the commercial and industrial sectors, aligning with the country's broader climate and sustainability goals.
