Global networking giant Cisco inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India, marking a significant step in the company’s strategy to boost both domestic production and exports. The new facility, developed in collaboration with homegrown contract manufacturer Flex, is expected to generate more than $1.3 billion in annual revenue and create 1,200 jobs.
The facility, located in Tamil Nadu, will initially focus on producing Cisco’s Network Convergence System (NCS) 540 Series routers. These products are part of Cisco’s broader plan to address the rapidly growing technology needs of organizations both in India and globally. In the next phase, the facility will incorporate advanced technologies such as printed circuit board assembly with multiple layers, signaling continued innovation.
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia praised the new facility, calling it a testament to India's growing self-reliance in the global technology landscape. "The factory will strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global manufacturing hub and boost the holistic growth of India's telecom ecosystem", he said at the inauguration.
Chuck Robbins, Chair and CEO of Cisco, emphasized the company’s long-standing commitment to India. "India has been a critical market for Cisco for nearly three decades. The opening of this facility in Chennai represents a major milestone in our regional investments and partnerships", Robbins said.
State Minister for Industries, Dr. T.R.B Rajaa, hailed the facility as a key addition to Tamil Nadu’s emergence as a hub for advanced manufacturing and technological innovation.
Daisy Chittilapilly, President of Cisco India and SAARC, highlighted the company’s pride in establishing the Chennai facility, underscoring Cisco’s growing investments in India.
