Hindustan Zinc Limited, India’s largest zinc producer, has signed a ,memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AEsir Technologies Inc., a US-based company specializing in zinc battery technologies. Under this agreement, Hindustan Zinc will supply high-quality zinc to AEsir Technologies, enhancing the development and deployment of advanced zinc batteries.
Zinc batteries offer a compelling alternative to conventional energy storage solutions, delivering higher power at lower costs with minimal maintenance and an extended lifespan of up to 20 years. This collaboration underscores Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to sustainable metal production aimed at advancing global clean energy initiatives.
"Zinc is integral to a low-carbon future", said Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc Limited. "At Hindustan Zinc, our focus is on producing metals sustainably for applications that power the ongoing global energy transition. This partnership with AEsir Technologies is another significant step in our developmental work in the emerging clean technology space".
The MoU aligns with Hindustan Zinc's strategy to explore new applications of zinc in clean energy. Zinc-based batteries are notable for their corrosion resistance, cost-effectiveness, recyclability, stability, and environmental friendliness. Built with non-flammable materials, these batteries are non-reactive to air and water and emit no toxic fumes, making them a safer and more sustainable option for energy storage.
"By providing high-quality zinc for cutting-edge energy storage, we are opening sophisticated new avenues for environmentally friendly solutions for a greener tomorrow", Misra added.
AEsir Technologies is recognized for its Nickel Zinc batteries, which are used in high-end sectors including defense, renewable energy, and critical infrastructure like data centers and 5G telecommunications. The collaboration with Hindustan Zinc will provide AEsir with critical raw materials needed for the development of next-generation Nickel Zinc batteries.
"Energy storage is at the forefront of every major innovation in the energy transition space", said Randy Moore, CEO & Co-Founder of AEsir Technologies. "Zinc batteries represent a leading solution for energy storage. This partnership with Hindustan Zinc provides us with the essential raw material for the development of our next-gen Nickel Zinc batteries".
Moore further highlighted the alignment of both companies in their commitment to sustainability. "We are pleased to partner with Hindustan Zinc, a global leader in sustainability, which complements our focus on the sustainability of our value chain", he added.
