  • Welspun Living and NSDC launch Rs 4.25 crore skilling program to train 1,000 individuals in textile manufacturing, focusing on operator-level jobs.
  • Women from underrepresented regions like the North-East and Uttarakhand will be prioritized for training at Welspun’s Gujarat facilities.
  • Guaranteed job placement and NSDC-Welspun certification on completion, with a focus on gender inclusion, industry alignment, and rural empowerment.

Welspun Living Ltd, one of the world's leading home textile players, has joined hands with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to implement a large-scale skilling program to reinforce operator-level positions in India's textile manufacturing industry. This combined venture, at a cost of Rs 4.25 crore (approximately USD 509 million), will certify and train 1,000 people in its pilot phase, with a strong emphasis on enabling women belonging to less represented areas such as the North-Eastern states and Uttarakhand.

The programme aims to fill skills gaps that currently exist in the textile sector through formal training that integrates theoretical teachings with practical exposure. Training will be provided at Welspun's world-class manufacturing units in Anjar and Vapi, Gujarat important textile centers that provide access to large-scale industrialization.

Trainees will go through extensive training modules in essential technical skills like machine operation, production steps, quality control, and occupational safety. The course also provides soft skills and personality development for greater workplace preparedness and self-esteem.

A distinctive feature of this program is its inclusive approach, seeking to develop career opportunities for women from geographically and economically backward regions, thus fostering gender balance and regional representation in the textiles industry. This is in accordance with wider national goals of inclusive growth and rural development.

On successful completion of training, the candidates will be provided a joint certification by NSDC and Welspun Living, supporting their industry-ready skill set. More importantly, all the certified candidates will be placed in jobs at Welspun's textile businesses, which means not only training but also placement at a job.

The initiative is a milestone moment in public-private partnerships for India's workforce development. NSDC's investment reflects the central government's focus on developing a skilled and employable workforce aligned with industry needs. As one of the pioneering programmes in the textile industry with such sector-specific inclusivity, this initiative has the potential to act as a model for other industry-led skilling initiatives across other industries.
