Goat Brand Labs, a Thrasio-style venture led by former Flipkart executive Rishi Vasudev, has closed a $36 million funding round, including a debt component, in the midst of a rush of capital into such startups this year.

Tiger Global, based in New York, led the financing, which also included Flipkart Ventures, Mayfield, Nordstar Capital, and Better Capital. This round was also attended by prominent angel investors such as Sujeet Kumar of Udaan, Virender Gupta of DailyHunt, and Ranjan Pai of Manipal Group.

According to people familiar with the situation, Goat Brand has raised $18 million in equity capital and the rest is in debt. Rameswar Misra, who previously founded the clothing company Turmswear, has joined Vasudev as a cofounder in this venture.

Vasudev is a seasoned fashion retail executive who previously led Flipkart's fashion division.

Goat Brand Labs, like Thrasio, is expected to acquire lifestyle brands and help them grow online. The company based in the United States is the world's largest acquirer of third-party private label businesses on Amazon.com.

G.O.A.T Brand Labs collaborates with distinct and exciting digitally-native brands in the Lifestyle space (fashion, home, nutrition, beauty, and personal care) to help them reach the next level of success.

G.O.A.T Brand Labs helps brands by providing data-driven insights, seamless operations, and in-depth knowledge of brand building, digital marketing, and product development. We collaborate with founders to add defensibility to their brands and accelerate their growth. To be regarded as the greatest of all time.

Vasudev told that he is looking to partner with early-stage brands with $1-3 million in sales in the lifestyle and beauty categories. “We will look to buy a majority stake and partner with them and enable them to scale up with our expertise,” he said.

Goat Brand Labs, he says, will fuel the exponential growth of direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands across all channels—marketplaces, a brand's e-commerce platforms, offline retail, and global markets—by "providing them with a tech-enabled platform for end-to-end integration replete with deep digital marketing expertise."

Goat Brand Labs is one of several new ventures that have raised significant funding rounds, including Mensa Brands, 10Club, and GlobalBees. Mensa Brands and GlobalBees have raised $50 million and $150 million in a mix of equity and debt, respectively, while 10Club has raised $40 million in one of India's largest seed funding rounds.

“The potential of the D2C market in India will only continue to grow and Goat Brand Labs is well positioned to effectively tap this, while helping brands scale, said Scott Shleifer, partner at Tiger Global.
