Kalinga Renewable Energy Manufactures, KARMA, is one of India's leading renewable energy companies and a startup from the Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Bhubaneswar, founded with the purpose to create, innovate and implement ways that can help in the production of costeffective and environment friendly energy. "As a technological company with a humanitarian mission, KARMA began operating in 2014 with a team of 3 people
working to develop renewable energy that could power every home. And now I believe KARMA has installed the largest number of solar micropumps in India" says Saroj Nayak, Professor at IIT Bhubaneswar and Co-Founder of the company.
Leveraging technology is the key to sustainable development and being a renewable energy firm KARMA understands how much difference the right use of the right resources can make. KARMA collaborates with researchers from all around the world and hopes to play a significant role in the energy market for years to come. "So how will we position ourselves as a company, again, we always think we're a startup right? So, there is no shortcut to success, we have to make sure that what we do is sustainable in a long run", shares Nayak. The firm deals in solar cells and modules, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction(EPC) for solar power projects and other solar products and provide customized and specialized solutions for various sectors and operate in both rural and urban areas.
KARMA has a team of 30 highly motivated employees including a Ph.D. from IIT engaged in the generation of nonconventional energy through solar and energy storage such as using batteries and supercapacitors who believe that as scientists and engineers, it is their moral obligation to contribute to the advancement of society. Some of the firm's achievements include, Introducing the first solar micro pump in the country certified by MNRE, contributing to the drastic reduction of diesel use in the agricultural industry, and providing a quality and dependable power source for households. KARMA has collaborated with several big franchises like Aditya Birla Group, Kirloskar, Bharat Motors, MIT University(US), and many more. What sets KARMA apart from other players in the industry is the firm's focus on research the firm analyses every little detail like state of the art technology, price, service level, sustainability, affordability, and quality before launching its product in the market.
