India Is Welcoming Female-Led Climate Technology Startups

The country has experienced business and economic growth due to the rise in female entrepreneurs and the motivation of the subsequent generation of female founders. Women-owned businesses play a significant role in society. India, the second-most populated nation and third largest emitter, is a significant contributor to the climate issue. Startup India has to foster women's entrepreneurship in India through initiatives, programs, the development of enabling networks and communities, and the activation of partnerships among various stakeholders in the startup ecosystem. This commitment is part of the organization's vision to support the sustainable development of women entrepreneurs for the nation's balanced growth.

With more startups being added to the Indian startup ecosystem each year, it is growing stronger and stronger. There are currently 21 unicorns and startups in the nation with valuations of over $1 billion each, while 40 more of these businesses as started by individuals of Indian descent abroad. The truth is that India is currently seeing growth in every sector, and this growth is primarily due to factors other than the adoption of new technology, the creation of new organizations and businesses, or the adoption of industry 4.0. However, it is encouraging to see more female leaders participate.

How Do Entrepreneurs In Climate Technology Fare?
The growing impact of climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions has been a dominant cause of world wide concern, gaining attention from investors with venture capital firms pouring $53.7B into climate tech in 2021. Climate focused funding in private markets had projected to continue over the coming decade, with the industry expected to grow to $1.9T by 2030. There are now 78 climate technology unicorns. The biggest number of these unicorns are sitting in Mobility and Transport. While electric vehicles, micro mobility (light weight single person short-distance transport), driverless cars, and other innovative transit solutions continue to attract significant funding.

The interest in climate tech businesses has grown significantly in the tech industry. Still, scaling is a barrier, particularly in industries where the inventor is too large for angel finance yet too highrisk for commercial lending. The function of venture capital is crucial since the economy would unavoidably decarbonizes over the following ten years.

Women Led Business Impact
The women's community of India is now contributing in every space, competing and even doing better than their male counterparts; accept it or not, this is making a huge difference in the country's growth. More often than not, the buzzing startup culture is praised for its progressive mentality. Key aspects like funds, safety, comfortable work environment, business opportunities, and many more have been improved from a female standpoint, either by using cutting-edge technology or a holistic system to create a niche space for women. There are many spaces where women leaders have already waved the flag of victory.

Women-owned enterprises provide the economy with a lot of energy. There are 432 million working age women in India, and 13.5 to 15.7 million of those firms were held by women. These businesses directly employ 22 to 27 million people. In addition, women are in charge of a lot of businesses. Indian women are self-reliant and highly motivated to launch their businesses. According to, over five years, startups that were formed or cofounded by women bring in 10 percent more overall income. These startups offer a more welcoming work environment and hire three times as many women as men. In addition, it has been predicted that women-owned firms will expand by 90 during the following five years.

Google India informed that it received close to 400 applications, out of which 20 womenled startups have been selected for the first cohort. It further stated that its women focused accelerator program would help these startups in areas such as access to capital, resolving problems in hiring talent, mentorship, and other allied challenges women entrepreneurs face. Besides, Google India's accelerator program will also host workshops and support startups in areas such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, cloud, UX, Android, web, product strategy, and growth. It will further connect them with a global community of women entrepreneurs.

Google India's Google for startup Accelerator Women Founders program was launched in June this year with a focus on women led sector agonistic early-stage and growth-stage startups. At the time of its launch, Google India told Inc 42 that it looked to launch two cohort based programs focusing on Indian women entrepreneurs in a year.

Outlook
In India, having a bank account was a significant accomplishment for women. However, there are already more than 15.7 million women-owned businesses, and they dominate the startup environment. This dramatic development highlights the potential and tenacity of Indian women. Women were meant to dominate India's workforce in the following decades, influencing and enhancing the nation's future. By 2030, it is predicted that 150­-170 million employment will be generated by an additional over 30 million women-owned companies. This might transform everything and make the economy's future seem more promising.
