India is the second largest fish producer in the world, accounting to a whopping 6.3 percent of the global fish production. The Secretary of the Department of Fisheries – Rajni Sekhri Sibal said “Fisheries is a sun rise sector in India, considering the commercially viable global tuna market which stood at $11.38 billion in 2017, is projected to reach $13.75 billion by 2023”. Moreover, growing at the rate of seven percent, the fishery sector sustains around 14.5 million fishermen in the country.
