  • Centre revokes Quality Control Orders (QCOs) on polyester fibre and yarn.
  • Move expected to boost competitiveness and reduce raw material costs.
  • Industry bodies hail the decision as a long-awaited relief for manufacturers.

The Central government has withdrawn the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) on polyester fibre and yarn, a major relief for India’s textile and apparel sector. The decision, revokes earlier notifications issued by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, Section 16.

The revoked QCOs cover key inputs such as Ethylene Glycol, Terephthalic Acid, polyester spun yarn, continuous filament yarn, partially oriented yarn, and industrial yarn all essential components of man-made fibre (MMF) production.

Industry leaders have welcomed the move, saying it will make sourcing of raw materials more cost-effective and globally competitive. Ashwin Chandran, Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), said the withdrawal fulfills a long-standing demand from user industries. “This measure will strengthen the MMF segment and support India’s position in global textile markets”, he added.

Durai Palanisamy, Chairman of the Southern India Mills Association (SIMA), said the revocation addresses one of the industry’s long-pending concerns.

The decision comes alongside the government’s Export Package, also announced on November 12, which aims to give a fresh push to India’s textile and apparel exports. Together, these measures are expected to enhance cost competitiveness, streamline raw material access, and restore confidence among textile manufacturers.
