Shree Cement Ties Up with RITES to Strengthen Nationwide Rail Logistics

- Shree Cement partners with RITES Ltd. to strengthen rail logistics network across India
- MoU signed to boost cement transport via rail infrastructure upgrades and IIoT integration
- Move follows Rs 59 crore acquisition of Raipur Handling, reinforcing logistics control and cost efficiency
Shree Cement has formed a strategic alliance with RITES Ltd., a government-run engineering consultancy company, to improve its rail logistics network throughout India. The agreement, signed through a Memorandum of Understanding, will serve to develop and improve rail infrastructure and ancillary services, thus optimizing the transportation of cement and allied products countrywide.
The partnership is expected to enhance Shree Cement's supply chain effectiveness through the use of RITES' capabilities in railway engineering and project management. The action is part of Shree Cement's continued push to streamline its logistics operations, which include the implementation of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies for real-time vehicle tracking and automated weighbridges.
Apart from technology, Shree Cement has been on the go to enhance its logistical strength through inorganic growth. Specifically, the company bought Raipur Handling and Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., a private rail siding operator, for Rs 59 crore to have greater control over its network of transport.
The alliance with RITES is expected to further lower the cost of transportation and enhance delivery schedules, helping Shree Cement to become more competitive in the cement market. Through the upgradation of its rail logistics network, the company hopes to serve the increasing demand for cement in different infrastructure development projects across the nation.
This partnership reaffirms Shree Cement's efforts in enhancing its logistical setup as well as India's infrastructure development targets. The company, through technological collaboration and strategic alliances, remains a strong player in the country's industrial development.
