Semiconductor design firm SmartSoC Solutions has joined hands with French chip specialist Cortus SAS to develop and manufacture secure chip solutions in India. This strategic collaboration will focus on SIM cards, smart cards, banking cards, and e-passport chips, aiming to strengthen local capabilities in secure and mission critical chip technologies.

Cortus, headquartered in Montpellier, France, is known for its secure chip solutions used across various sectors such as cryptocurrency, pay TV, e-passports, automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics. The company is expanding its presence in key markets like Europe, China, and India, with a special focus on AI, avionics, and automotive chipsets.

SmartSoC, based in Bengaluru, is a fast growing player in India's semiconductor space. With a workforce of over 1,400 engineers globally, the company offers VLSI, embedded software, IoT, and AI driven solutions. It plays a key role in chip design and product engineering for both Indian and international clients.

Bharath Desareddy, CEO of SmartSoC, said the partnership is a step forward in supporting India’s ambitions for secure and self-reliant silicon manufacturing. Cortus CEO Michael Chapman also emphasized India’s importance as a market for secure identity and transaction chips, adding that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to local innovation and global standards.

The alliance is expected to enhance design, development, and support infrastructure, and help drive next-generation chip solutions tailored to Indian and global needs.
