In a major stride towards innovation through academia-industry collaboration, Volvo Group India and BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE) inaugurated the BMSCE-Volvo Group Centre for Flexible Material Research in Basavanagudi today. This cutting-edge facility was established following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in 2023 between the two entities.
The new Centre will drive advanced research in flexible material testing, critical to Volvo's digital transformation initiatives. Equipped with state-of-the-art Flexible Material Testing Rigs, the lab will focus on evaluating the behaviour of various cables and hoses, including high-voltage EV cables and safety-critical components. The testing machines cover Axial, Bending, Torsional, and a unique Simulation Co-relation Rig, which will enhance research accuracy and testing capabilities for Volvo’s internal use.
BMSCE will lead academic research in the field, fostering future talent and advancing material science. Kamal Bali, President and Managing Director of Volvo Group India, emphasized the importance of the collaboration, stating, "This partnership with BMSCE demonstrates our commitment to driving innovation, nurturing talent, and advancing research vital to our sustainability journey".
Maria Ebbesson, Site Chairperson of Volvo Group Technology (GTT) India, added, "This Centre represents our dedication to bridging the gap between industry and academia. Every innovation developed here will align with our strategic goals and push the boundaries of material research".
The Centre is set to become a hub for groundbreaking research and development, benefiting both industry and academia.
