Allindiabazaar.in (AIB): A Reliable Name in the Second Hand Goods Market

Shan Dharam Shenker, Co-FounderWith today’s internet penetration and cheap logistics services, the distinction between B2B, B2C and C2C is bound to favor B2C and C2C over the next few years. Amazon and Flipkart have raised the competition; companies are buying up vertically, this way making their own supply chains in order to serve their end users better. With the Indian customer unwilling to pay extra for the brick and mortar store’s rent electricity, AC and staff, and the expanding internet penetration and large number of new internet users, with less disposal income the C2C market is bound to boom. Quick enough to recognize the evolving industry trends is Allindiabazaar.in. Set up in 2009, Allindiabazaar.in was a C2C site where customers were able to upload their second hand items; it was only later that did AIB developed into becoming a combination of B2B, B2C in addition to the initial concept.

Starting with United Web just a couple of years ago to emphasize on making 3D-animations, and small IT programs and other for, mainly, Scandinavian clients, Ravi Ranjan and Shan Dharam Shenker soon realized that their clients went belly up one by one. “Not having anything better to do, we thought we would make allindiabazaar.in which was inspired by a Danish website called Den Blå Avis, and which a few years later got bought
up by Ebay. Had we known in 2008 that today’s household names like OLX, Quickr, Flipkart and Amazon were just starting out with lot of money, we probably would have given the AIB project a second thought. Luckily, we were unaware of this,” speaks Ravi Ranjan, Co-Founder, Allindiabazaar.in.

Having seen the highs and lows of business, today Allindiabazaar.in is proud of having celebrated its 10-year anniversary in September 2019

Soon, AIB was a C2C site where customers were able to upload their second items. It was only later that AIB developed into becoming a combination of B2B, B2C in addition to the initial concept. “The management of United Web believes in the AIB concept and reinvests the company’s earnings in the AIB project instead of drawing big salaries. We are focusing on having an efficient platform where we do not have too much involvement by employees, in order to keep the costs low. AIB will mainly get revenue from Ads and optional nice to have features on the site. We are trying to get more users on AIB by promoting it as a safe site. We are using SafeWebkey to verifiy users, and we do it free of cost. SafeWebKey is our own concept and the verification process takes only 2 – 3 minutes, in case the Aadhaar Card and mobile phone number is linked. Of course, having a technology driven site is not enough to entice new users, so we are definitely on the outlook for investors who believe in our concept, and who can add marketing expertise,” adds Shan Dharam Shenker, Co-Founder, Allindiabazaar.in.

Having seen the highs and lows of business, today Allindiabazaar.in is proud of having celebrated its 10-year anniversary in September 2019. “We definitely have not had unlimited funds, but with the present owner structure and focus we have been able to reach a point where the broader audience have begun noticing AIB. Basically, people have started noticing AIB over the last two years, since our design was updated and concept changed from being a C2C platform to being an ‘all-the- letter-combinations’. We are making AIB a free platform where everyone can sell their products without having to pay a commission or subscription. Already we give our sellers a free payment gateway where the sales proceeds are transferred directly to the seller’s bank account. In the coming years, our plan is to develop AIB toan extent that we are positioned right in between Flipkart, Amazon, IndiaMart, OLX and Quicker,”concludes Ravi.
