Seafood is no more just considered a mere alternative to animal meat. After being hosted a paradigm shift in the way Indian hotels serve fish, Empire Foods – the Mumbai based seafood importer & hub which requires no introduction in the Indian seafood industry, is on a novel mission to give the ‘desi tadka’ to the international market. Being best known for introducing versatile seafoods from across the globe for the first time in India, Empire Foods truly believes that it’s high time to repay international market with the real taste of Indian seafood as a token of appreciation, just like how it introduced and served Basa Fish (from Vietnam) into the heart of fish-lovers in India.

Empire Foods grows and processes seafood products from the pristine waters of Eastern Coast of India. The state-of-the-art processing plant is located in Nellore. The plant is HACCP compliant and is approved by The Marine Products Exports Development Authority of India. On-boarding a broad and dedicated approach and possessing
well-devised business plan, it has launched four new brands to export prawns and shrimps, which namely are Mister Shrimp, Aroma of Seafood, The Blue House, and Ocean King. “Having Rs.100 crore turnover currently, we are hoping to grow at 50 percent per annum for the next five years. After four years from now, we look forward to have a turnover of Rs.500 crore,” adds Yogesh Grover, Founder & Director, Empire Foods.

To ensure the quality of products, Empire Foods has a well-established QC department that performs microbiological and other tests on every product starting right from the fish farms

The export of prawns and shrimps last year in India had crossed around Rs.25000 crore, and it shows no intentions of a steep slope. International market is synonym with quality, and there is no better way to go by. To ensure the quality of products, Empire Foods has a well-established QC (Quality Control) department that performs microbiological and other tests on every product starting right from the fish farms, be it import or export. After that the products are frozen and transferred in refrigerator trucks that
are maintained at a temperature of - 180 C, ensuring the whole cold chain is maintained. Further more, it does comply to FSSAI and other registered bodies.

From Basa Fish to Market Leader of Seafood:A Glimpse of Successful Journey
After having worked aboard and getting to know about the matchless taste of Basa Fish (from Vietnam), Yogesh was disheartened by the quality of seafood being served in India. With an aim to transform the country’s dietary, he incepted Empire Foods in 2008 by introducing his favorite, Basa Fish. Starting from Basa Fish, Empire Foods over the years imported an array of seafood to the country that includes Salmon (from Norway, Scotland & Denmark), Tuna (Vietnam & Thailand), and Sea Bass & Black Cod (South America), not to mention the prolonged index of Indian seafoods. Having started its journey from the scratch, Empire Foods spread like a wildfire to open branches PAN India with a strong & unassailable distribution network. Today, it has 40 percent of the market in possession, whereas its primary competitor covers merely 10 percent.

With a 400 people strong well-trained workforce, Empire through HORECA gateway serves a luxury pool of five-star hotels that include Taj Group of Hotels, Hyatt, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, ITC Hotels, The LaLiT, Le Méridien, and many more. Moreover, it also caters to Special Occasions and Air Catering that includes TajSATS and Oberoi Flight Kitchen.
